Women's Hoops Stumbles in Conference Play at IU East

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Asbury University women's basketball team fell 86-74 on Tuesday evening at IU East in River States Conference play.

Asbury drops to 13-4 on the year and have lost consecutive games for the first time this season. Additionally, AU moves to 2-2 in league play with the loss.

Asbury finished the contest with eight blocks but turned the ball over 21 times. IU East also won the rebounding battle 56-42.

The Eagles shot only 31 percent from the floor on 22-70 shooting for the night. Asbury struggled from three-point territory as they were limited to only 3-17 shooting.

For the season, AU averages 11 threes per game, which ranks third in all of NAIA Division II.

IU East jumped out to an early lead and led 16-13 after the first. Asbury finished the second period on a strong note, scoring on their final three possessions to take a 35-34 lead at halftime.

A 12-0 run from the Red Wolves extended their lead out to 48-39 in the third quarter. IUE shot 55 percent in the quarter and led 62-57 heading into the fourth.

Asbury was only able to reduce the lead down to six in the final period before IUE pushed the lead back out to double figures. IUE's largest lead of the game was 13 points.

AU was led in scoring by freshman Zaria Napier, who totaled 19 points and six rebounds. Napier finished the game 8-13 from the foul line.

Autumn Herriford continued to find success offensively as she logged 17 points, along with nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and three steals.

Also scoring in double figures for Asbury was junior Kelsey Johnson, who recorded 11 points.

Faith Osborne compiled eight points and five rebounds, while Sarah King tacked on six points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Jaclynn Ruble chipped in with seven points. Also scoring for the Eagles were Meagan Bellamy and Cheyenne Fullwood, scoring four and two points apiece.

AU will look to bounce back on the road on Saturday at Ohio Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 PM.
