WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University baseball team split their opening day doubleheader at home against St. Francis on Thursday.
The Eagles took game one 4-2, but dropped the second game by a score of 6-4.
Game one
Paul Haupt's two-run homerun in the seventh, broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead for good.
Chase Thomas closed the game in the ninth recording a save.
Jacob Cervantes collected the win, pitching 2.2 innings of work in relief and striking out three batters.
Will McDonald got the start and pitched 5.1 innings, striking out four.
Trevor Campbell posted a double and
Joe Williams also finished with a single.
Game two
AU took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, following a double to center from
Riley Baumbick.
However, USF would score five runs in the top of the sixth on four hits to reclaim the lead at 6-2.
Asbury cut the lead down to 6-3 after
CJ Compton slapped a double to right, which scored
Walker Paris from second base.
The Eagles tacked on one more run in the bottom half of the seventh, but were unable to tie up the game.
Garrett McIntire and
Josh Blancet both finished with a hit along with Baumbick and Compton.
Next Up
The Eagles will face St. Francis today at 3 PM.
