LEBANON, Tenn.—The Asbury University women's soccer team fell 4-0 at No. 18 Cumberland University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Eagles' past three opponents have all been nationally rated, but with the loss, AU moves to 1-3 on the year.
Asbury held off the Phoenix for over 35 minutes in the first half, but Cumberland would break through in the 36
th minute. Roughly two minutes later, Cumberland would strike again to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
The Eagles had a couple of solid looks early on with shots from
Elizabeth Sparks and
Cam Davis.
Olivia Ruckriegel fired off a shot in the closing minutes of the half, but was unable to find the back of the net.
In the second half of play, Cumberland would score twice more.
The Phoenix first scored in the 47
th minute of play, and then would bring in one last goal in the final 10 minutes of action.
Asbury had a great chance to score a goal late in the half with back-to-back shot attempts from
Georgia Clark and
Sarah Rocco, but both shots were saved by Cumberland's keeper.
The Phoenix posted 25 shots throughout the duration of the match and recorded 15 shots on-goal. AU finished the contest with eight shots, five of which landed on-goal.
Carley Pyles recorded 10 saves as goalie. Rocco led AU's offense with three shots, while Davis,
Olivia Ruckriegel,
Georgia Clark, and
Janelle Hibshman all tallied a shot on-goal.
Asbury will return to the field this Saturday at (RV) Marian in Indianapolis.
