Pyles Collects Career-High 15 Saves, Asbury Takes Down Campbellsville 1-0

WILMORE, Ky. --  The Asbury University women's soccer team picked up their first victory of the 2019 season on Wednesday evening with a 1-0 win over Campbellsville. AU improves to 1-1 on the season and gives CU its first loss of the year.

Senior Carley Pyles had a great performance at goalie in her 90 minutes of work and posted a career-high 15 saves.

Pyles played a key role in preserving the shutout with several important saves down the stretch in the second half as AU held on for the win. Early in the first half of action, Pyles also collected her 100th career save.

Despite getting out-shot by a heavy margin, Asbury fought off every opportunity on the defensive end that Campbellsville created throughout the match to complete the shutout.

Asbury was defending their goal for most of the match as the Tigers were relentless in their offensive scheme.

The Eagles had two shots on-goal in the first half, but weren't able to break the scoreless tie.

In the second half, Campbellsville continued to attack the Eagles' defense in the second half. AU refused to give up a goal and ultimately created a couple of scoring opportunities for themselves.

With 13 minutes to play, Susie Terrazas scored the game-winning goal of the match off of a shot from inside the box to put Asbury ahead 1-0 for good.

The Tigers put together one more attack on offense as they tried to even the match, but once again, Asbury's defense stepped up and held off the late rally.

CU finished with 27 shots, while Asbury ended the contest with five shots, four of which landed on-goal. Campbellsville also held a 10-1 margin on corner kicks.

For the Eagles, Elizabeth Sparks, Janelle Hibshman, and Olivia Ruckriegel all completed the contest with a shot on-goal.

Asbury is back in action at home against No. 22 Trinity Christian College on Saturday evening. The match is slated for a 5:30 PM start.
