ATHENS, Tenn. -- Although the Lady Eagles collected 15 hits in their two games against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs, it was not enough at pull out a win during the mid-week doubleheader.
In game one, Tennessee Wesleyan was powered by four doubles ended with eight total RBIs. Third baseman Baylee Sutton and first baseman Courtney Black both gathered two hits for the Bulldogs while starting pitcher Courtney Calkins appeared in control for most of the game. The senior righthander completed five innings from within the circle and collected two strikeouts while allowing only one earned run. For the Eagles, freshman Sophia Colclasure had a fantastic start to her college career collecting two hit in three plate appearances.
Game two proved to be a much tighter affair but a huge six run inning in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the difference maker. Asbury maintained a 4-0 lead throughout most of the game and was powered by a strong offensive performance by Faith Day who collected two hits and two RBIs. Day has now recorded five hits in this young season and is batting an impressive .417. The tables turned in the latter half of the fifth inning when the Bulldogs rallied and capitalized on a series of Asbury wild pitches and errors. The Bulldogs collected 9 hits and eventually scored six runs on Asbury starting pitcher Paige Hill.
The Eagles will be back in action February, 27 against Union College in Barbourville, Ky.
