Eagles Fall in Overtime to Brescia, 112-111

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's basketball team fell 112-111 in overtime at home to Brescia on Tuesday night at the Luce Center in River States Conference play.

The Eagles fall to 5-7 on the year and drop to 0-2 in RSC action.

Asbury shot 55 percent from the field and were 11-22 from three-point territory on Tuesday, but AU was just 16-30 from the foul line.

Asbury led 44-43 at the break after a back-and-forth first half. The Eagles and Bearcats remained close early on in the second and traded the lead back multiple times as neither team could hold a sustainable lead.

AU broke free after a three from Eric Powell and basket from Desmond Duke, which gave the Eagles a 71-62 lead.

Asbury's offense continued to flow after a long three-point field goal from Jamiel Goliday increased AU's lead out to 78-67 as the Eagles began to build a double-digit advantage.

The Eagles continued to hold steady ahead, and following a pair of free throws from Powell, AU led 92-80 with 2:17 remaining.

AU went cold from the foul line and Brescia would score 16 points in the final minutes of regulation, including a 10-1 run in the final 53 seconds to tie up the game and force OT.

Leander Ridgeway paced the Eagles' offense in overtime as he scored the first nine points of the extra period to keep Asbury ahead 105-104 with two minutes left.

However, BU would score on a three-point shot on the next possession and would not give up the lead in the remainder of the overtime period.

Ridgeway was fantastic on Tuesday as he finished with a season-high 34 points and 12 rebounds on 14-24 shooting.

Siah Holified was 9-11 from the floor and collected a career-high 24 points. Additionally, the junior brought in seven rebounds.

Desmond Duke recorded 14 points and dished out 12 assists for a double-double on the night.

Also scoring in double figures was Eric Powell, who finished with 17 points and Jamiel Goliday, who tallied 12.

Asbury is back in play on Saturday at IU Southeast. Tip-off is slated for 3 PM.
