MOREHEAD, Ky. – After 11 days off, the Asbury University women's basketball team returned to action today with an exhibition contest at NCAA DI Morehead State at Johnson Arena.
It was a tough challenge for the Eagles on Thursday, as Asbury fell in the contest by a score of 107-55.
The Eagles still remain at 12-2 on the year. Asbury's 12 wins are the most of any team so far in the River States Conference.
AU played right with Morehead in the opening minutes as the contest was tied twice, both at 9-9 and 11-11. MSU pulled ahead with a late run at the end of the period to take a 21-16 advantage.
Morehead State dominated the second quarter as they out-scored Asbury 28-8, which blew the game open at 49-24 heading into halftime.
MSU used their size and length to its advantage as they scored 72 points in the paint and 34 points off of turnovers.
Asbury shot the ball much better to begin the second half and tallied a team-high 21 points in the third quarter of play.
The Eagles were efficient from the foul line, shooting 15-20 for the afternoon.
However, Morehead State's length and athleticism proved to be a problem for AU as MSU posted 34 points in the final period to crack over 100 points in the game.
Asbury knocked down 12 three-point field goals in the contest, with
Autumn Herriford and
Haley Southerland each connecting on three three-pointers apiece.
