Women's Hoops Erases 14 Point Deficit, Take Down Cumberlands 97-96 in OT

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University women's basketball team collected a huge victory at the Luce Center on Wednesday evening against Cumberlands 97-96 in overtime.

AU remains undefeated on the year and moves to 5-0.

Wednesday's game was filled with nine ties and eight lead changes as both teams couldn't breakaway from each other.

It was a strong opening quarter from the Eagles, but Cumberlands led by 10 at the break, 39-29 and then extended their lead out to 14 points midway through the third quarter.

 However, Asbury refused to quit and battled hard on both ends of the floor and quickly shrunk the lead and ended the third quarter with a lot of momentum.

The Eagles momentarily led the in the final frame, but UC had things tied up in the final seconds. A shot missed by the Patriots at the buzzer forced overtime.

AU stepped up in overtime and knocked down several crucial shots down the stretch, including three-point shots from Zaria Napier and Autumn Herriford.

Five Eagles scored in double figures with freshman Jaclynn Ruble leading the way with 26 points. Ruble knocked down the game-winning free throw with six seconds remaining in overtime.

Zaria Napier had a great game as well finishing with 21 points and team-high nine rebounds.

Kelsey Johnson totaled 17 points and Autumn Herriford posted 13 points with six rebounds and six assists.

Sarah Dennison also cracked the double figures scoring column with 11 points and six rebounds. AU collected 15 steals throughout the contest on Wednesday and scored 26 points off turnovers.

As a team, the Eagles shot 33 percent from the floor and knocked down 13 three-point field goals. The Eagles were also very efficient from the foul line, shooting 19-27 as a team.

The Eagles will stay at home and will take on Berea on Saturday at 2 PM.
