GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Asbury University women's basketball team rolled to its third consecutive victory with a decisive 83-47 win at Welch College on Tuesday evening.
Asbury improves to 8-1 on the year with the win.
The Eagles built a led 35-25 at halftime, but used a dominating third quarter to pull away from the Flames. AU out-scored Welch 32-12 in the period, as they shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the quarter.
AU's defense made things difficult in the second half for the Flames' offense. Welch committed 41 turnovers in the loss and the Eagles collected 32 steals as a team.
Amie Conley and
Autumn Herriford each recorded six steals apiece, while
Zaria Napier and
Sarah Dennison collected five.
Jaclynn Ruble again led the offense on Tuesday with a team-high 20 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor. The freshman was perfect from the foul line on 6-6 free throw attempts.
Kelsey Johnson tacked on 14 points, and Napier and Herriford each scored 10. Conley chipped in with nine points and a team-high three blocks.
Sarah Dennison scored five points and brought in six rebounds.
The Eagles shot just under 40 percent for the game and were 15-24 shooting from the foul line.
The largest lead of the night for the Eagles was at 39 points midway through the final period.
Asbury is back in action on the road at Oakland City on Friday at 7 PM.
