KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Asbury University men's basketball team picked up a solid road win at Johnson University on Thursday evening in Knoxville with a decisive 105-88 victory. The Eagles improve to 5-2 on the year and have now won their past two contests.
Asbury used strong efforts from
Leander Ridgeway and
Eric Powell, who combined for 53 points on the night. Ridgeway led all scorers with 28 points on 10-17 shooting from the floor. The junior also brought in six rebounds and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
Powell dropped 25 points and was 5-7 from three-point territory.
Desmond Duke also scored in double figures with 11 points.
Jamiel Goliday and
Malcolm Murphy each tabbed nine points, while
TJ Robinson scored eight.
Siah Holifield chipped in with seven points.
Blaine May led the Eagles with three assists.
As a team, AU shot 50 percent from the floor and were also very effective from the foul line, shooting 84 percent on 22-26 attempts.
The Eagles' defense forced 18 turnovers and scored 31 points off of those turnovers. AU also scored 18 second chance points and 52 points inside the paint.
AU is back in play for the Zweifel/ Pritchett Classic tomorrow at 3 PM against Cumberland University.
