Eagles Drop Last-Second Heartbreaker to Cumberland, 85-83

Asbury University came back from a twelve-point deficit in the first half, but fell in the final seconds on Saturday afternoon against Cumberland University
 
 The Eagles gave up a 78-76 lead in the final moments of the game, eventually losing a heartbreaker to the Cumberland Phoenix 85-83.
 
The Eagles dropped to 5-3 on the season and snapped their two-game win streak.
 
Cumberland took control early and led 24-15 lead midway through the first half. The Phoenix led by as much as twelve points through the first half, but Caleb Bonny and Eric Powell helped the Eagles work their way back to a 46-43 halftime score. Bonny and Powell had twelve points in the first half, while Leander Ridgeway led the charge with 14.
 
It only took a minute and a half for Asbury to take the lead back, going up 47-46 a layup by Drew Delatte. The Phoenix and the Eagles exchanged leads until there were one minute and 44 seconds left to play. Cumberland's Jalen Duke hit knocked down a three pointer extend the Phoenix to 83-79, and Asbury trailed most of the rest of the way.
 
Ridgeway made a clutch rebound to tie the game with 6 seconds left, but the tie only lasted five seconds. Cumberland's Isaac Stephens made a layup with one second left on the clock to seal the game at 85-83.
 
Cumberland out-shot Asbury from the floor and from behind the line. The Phoneix' 55.4 field goal percentage bested the Eagles' 46.4, and their 83.3 free throw percentage edged out Asbury's 79.2 percent.
 
The Phoenix also rebounded Asbury 30-22, but the two teams were knotted up in assists (16), steals (6), and turnovers (16).
 
Ridgeway netted 24 points on the day, with six rebounds and two assists. He led the Eagles team in points, with Powell trailing close behind him with 21.
 
Bonny scored 12 points, Siah Holifield had six, Jamiel Goliday had five and Malcolm Murphy had four.
 
Drew Delatte was tied with Ridgeway for the team lead in rebounds with eight, while also scoring four points. Desmond Duke led the team with seven assists, while also scoring seven points and getting two rebounds.
 
The Eagles will travel to Barbourville, Kentucky to face off against Union College on Tuesday, November 19th at 7 P.M.
