In February 2017, Murphy joined the coaching staff at Asbury — as an assistant and defensive coordinator — after serving as the first head coach at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. Murphy also served two seasons as a graduate assistant for Ohio Valley University.

Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Murphy spent three seasons as an assistant coach at multiple high schools. He began his coaching career at Lexington (Ky.) Murphy received his master's in education from Ohio Valley University in May of 2016. He is a 2013 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he received his bachelor's in communication.
