Asbury University

Russell Abner is entering his first season as assistant men's basketball coach. Having initially been brought on staff as a volunteer assistant, Abner quickly moved up the ranks after the promotion and departure of assistant coaches Jason Price (now the Asbury Women's Head Basketball Coach) and Daniel Previtt (now the Tennessee Temple Head Men's Basketball Coach).

Abner is no stranger to college basketball.  The Science Hill, Ky., native served as a student assistant at Eastern Kentucky University from 2006-2009.  During that time the Colonels went 53-41 and won a OVC Tournament Championship (2007) before advancing to the NCAA Tournament and playing North Carolina.  His duties included playing on the practice scout team, filming and editing practices and games, and assisting in the daily operations of the basketball office.

In 2010, Abner enlisted into the United States Navy and currently serves in the Navy Reserves.  

This past summer Abner worked basketball camps at Asbury, Kentucky, and the West Point Military Academy.  In the past he has also worked the Tayshuan Prince Basketball Camp and camps at Eastern Kentucky. Russell and his wife Krista reside in Lexington, Ky.
