WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury men's and women's cross country teams won first place in the Justin Spoon Fiercely Faithful Meet on Saturday morning in Wilmore, Ky., led by
Lucas Hollinden and
Emma Le Duc, who took first place individually.
The event is in honor of our fallen teammate Justin Spoon, who was a two-time champion in this meet. On March 23, 2023, he passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. As the Spiritual Life Coordinator on campus, Justin was asked to share his advice for a fruitful life, and his response was to be "fiercely faithful".
First ever collegiate victory for both Emma LeDuc and Lucas Hollinden in either cross country or track.
Emma improved her 6K personal best from the 24:59 she ran at the CCS meet last fall to 24:22 today on a MUCH harder course. She now has the fourth fastest 6k time for an Asbury runner ever.
Emma Groff time today was almost 2 minutes faster than she ran in our meet a year ago.
Lucas became the fourth fastest AU runner on our home course over the last 25 years. Justin Spoon has the fasted ever AU time on the course with his 26:38 in 2020.
Senior Jojo Ernst had perhaps his best cross country race ever. His time of 28:53 was over a minute and a half faster than he ran on our home course last year.

"This was a really fun day. We had a fewer number of teams participate today compared to the last several years which was disappointing, but it did allow us to walk away with a number of individual awards. Our race course at Asbury is very difficult, even for our team who trains on it every day. We showed a lot of toughness to put up some great times. It was exciting to see both Emma Le Duc and Lucas have the confidence to take control of their races. Jojo ran great, and Harris Yates had a breakthrough performance to finish in a team scoring position for the first time ever. Beth Ragain really impressed me in her first ever 6K race, and Lucy Kate completed her final race ever on our home course with her fastest time by nearly a minute."
