Men's and Women's Tennis Defeat Huntingdon to Open CCS Play

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Asbury men's (3-4, 1-0 CCS) and women's (3-3, 1-0 CCS) began their defense of a Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Title on Friday afternoon, both defeating Huntingdon College in their CCS opening match. 

The men claimed a 7-0 victory over the Hawks as the women grabbed a 5-2 win to open conference play.

MEN'S NOTES
The Eagles quickly responded after dropping the opening doubles match, as the No. 2 pairing of Alejo Britos and Andres Caceres earned a 6–4 win over the Hawks.

Asbury secured the doubles point with a decisive performance at No. 3, where Ben Moore and Paolo Cargnelutti rolled to a 6–1 victory.

The Eagles carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all six courts. At No. 2 singles, Franco Patino delivered the most dominant performance of the day with a 6–0, 6–0 victory.

Ignacio Ardiles followed with a strong outing at No. 3 singles, winning 6–1, 6–2.

AU also claimed a key three-set battle at No. 4 singles, where Alejo Britos defeated Zach Cox 6–2, 4–6, 6–3. At No. 5 singles, Andres Caceres controlled his match throughout, earning a 6–1, 6–1 win.

Asbury rounded out the sweep with a win at No. 6 singles from Paolo Cargnelutti, who defeated Huntingdon in straight sets.

WOMEN'S NOTES
The Eagles opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. At No. 1 doubles, Katherine Nova and Alexandra Garcia controlled the match in a 6–1 victory over HC.

The No. 2 pair of Ariadna Zegarra and Malory Watkins followed with another decisive performance, defeating the Hawks 6–2.

Huntingdon claimed the final doubles match at No. 3, narrowly defeating Cara Clark and Isabella Sanchez by a 7–5 score.

In singles play, Katherine Nova delivered a dominant 6–0, 6–0 win over HC at No. 1 spot. Ariadna Zegarra matched that effort at No. 2 with a 6–1, 6–1 victory.

The Eagles also earned a straight-set win at No. 3, where Alexandra Garcia defeated the Hawks 6–4, 6–0.

Isabella Sanchez battled through a three-set match at No. 5, defeating HC 6–2, 4–6, 10–3 in a match tiebreak.

Both the men and women will hit the court tomorrow in LaGrange, Ga. to take on LaGrange College at 11 AM.
