Eagles Fall in Doubleheader to MSJ

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury softball team (10-8, 0-2 CCS) fell in both games of a doubleheader to Mount. St. Joseph (11-7, 0-0 HCAC),11-3 and 8-2.

Game One | MSJ 11, ASBURY 3

The Lions jumped out quickly, scoring two runs in the first and adding four more in the second to build a 6-1 lead. Mount St. Joseph broke the game open in the fourth inning with a five-run frame, extending the advantage to 11-1.

The Eagles showed flashes offensively, recording five hits in the game. Abigail Moffat led the way, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double. Emma Popplewell also had a strong showing at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.

Abi Thompson provided a spark late, going 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI, while Samantha Bottom and Elyanna Rogers each scored a run.

Josie Potter started allowing six runs over two innings of work. Elizabeth McIntyre and Thompson combined for the final three innings in relief.

Game Two | MSJ 8, ASBURY 2

Game two remained scoreless through the first two innings before AU struck first in the third. The Eagles plated two runs, highlighted by RBI contributions from Moffat and Thompson, to take a 2-0 lead.

The Lions responded in the fourth inning with three runs to take the lead and followed with a four-run fifth inning to create separation at 8-2.

The Eagles finished with six hits in the contest, with Moffat again leading the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double and an RBI. Daegan Flamm added two hits, while Elyanna Rogers recorded a hit and scored a run.

Sidney Hansen started game two, allowing five runs on eight hits. Danielle Spiegel pitched the final three innings in relief.

The Eagles will travel to Lexington, Ky., and take on Transylvania University on Thursday March 24 for a doubleheader starting at 5 pm.
