LAGRANGE, Ga. — Asbury baseball (8-14, 3-3 CCS) dropped the series finale to LaGrange (13-11, 2-4 CCS) by a 15-5 margin on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles struck first in the second inning, capitalizing early when Hank Burns laced a two-run double to left to give Asbury a 2-0 lead. LaGrange responded in the bottom half with an RBI single from Collin McGhee to make it 2-1, but Asbury held the advantage through the early frames.
The game shifted decisively in the fourth. Trailing 2-1, the Panthers erupted for seven runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Carson Burgamy and a sacrifice fly from Colin Jones, to take an 8-2 lead. LaGrange added one run in the fifth before breaking it open with a six-run sixth inning, extending the lead to 15-2. Jones delivered again during the surge, finishing with a game-high four RBIs.
Asbury was limited to five hits but found early success at the plate. Burns led the offense with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. The Eagles worked five walks and left six runners on base but were unable to sustain offense against LaGrange's midgame surge.
Asbury pitching worked six innings as a staff, recording four strikeouts against a LaGrange lineup that consistently applied pressure on the Eagles defense.
The Eagles showed late life in the seventh, scoring three runs. Josh McNulty lifted a sacrifice fly that brought home two runs, trimming the deficit to 15-5, which held as the final score.
