POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. --- The Asbury women's basketball team (15-14, 11-5 CCS) fell to Bethel University (22-11, 10-8 CL), 80-49, in the first round of the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) National Tournament.
The Eagles opened the game with energy, taking a 14-13 lead after the first quarter and building a brief four-point advantage midway through the period.
Asbury remained competitive in the second quarter, but Bethel used a strong offensive stretch to take a 33-29 lead into halftime.
The game shifted decisively in the third quarter, as the Pilots erupted for 28 points while limiting the Eagles to just five.
Bre Jones led Asbury with 15 points off the bench, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. Emily Sizemore added 13 points and five rebounds, while Anna Hellums contributed seven points.
Asbury shot 32.1% from the field and 20.7% from three-point range, while being outrebounded 37-25. Bethel finished the game shooting 46.8% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc, and capitalized on 21 Asbury turnovers to pull away in the second half.
