MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Asbury baseball (3-0, 0-0 CCS) exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning to break open a tight game and complete the series sweep over the University of Dallas (0-3, 0-0 SCAC), 16-5.
Senior accounting major
Andrew Billington headlined the Eagles' offense, finishing with four hits, four runs scored, two RBI, a home run and a stolen base.
The Eagles established control early with a three-run first inning.
Edison Burke reached on an error to open the scoring sequence, and a single from
Andrew Billington helped load the bases.
Josh McNulty and
Cam Weaver then worked back-to-back bases-loaded walks to bring in runs and stake Asbury to a 3-0 advantage.
After Dallas briefly surged ahead in the second behind Nate Curtis' two-run shot, McNulty's RBI groundout and a run-scoring single from Weaver in the bottom of the frame quickly put Asbury back in front 5-4.
Asbury then found their offensive surge in the fourth inning featuring contributions up and down the lineup.
Avery Hare started the big frame with an RBI double, and
Austin Akridge followed with a two-run single to extend the cushion. Later in the inning,
Edison Burke drilled a two-run double that expanded the lead.
Andrew Billington punctuated the rally with a two-run home run to left as the Eagles built a 14-4 lead.
Edison Burke added two hits, including his key two-run double, and scored three times. Asbury totaled 16 runs on 10 hits, taking advantage of nine walks and five Dallas errors to keep pressure on Dallas pitching throughout the afternoon.
Dallas added its final run in the fifth inning when Andrew Israel scored on a passed ball, trimming the deficit to 14-5. The Eagles responded again in the bottom of the inning, tacking on two more runs, including a fielder's choice from
Brady Robeson that produced a pair of runs to restore a double-digit lead. Dallas finished with 11 hits but stranded nine runners and managed just four RBI on the day.
On the mound, Asbury limited Dallas to a single run over the final four innings.
Quinn Nobles earned the win in relief, working one inning with two hits allowed, one earned run, and a strikeout as part of an Eagles staff that surrendered only five earned runs on 97 total pitches.
Devin Walker started on the mound for AU, going four innings surrendering four earned runs. Freshman
Wesley Stewart made his collegiate debut, throwing two scoreless innings.

"Overall, a great way to start the season. It's so great to be playing again. Just gotta keep working and keep this momentum going into the next series."
