Eagles Rally Not Enough; Fall on Road to Huntingdon, 89-80

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Asbury (5-16, 3-5 CCS) put together a strong second-half response but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 89-80 to Huntingdon (12-9, 5-3 CCS) on Friday night inside Roland Arena in Montgomery, Ala.

After struggling to find consistency in the opening half, the Eagles regrouped after the break and outscored the Hawks 49-42 over the final 20 minutes. Jonathan Combs, Jordan Lewis, and Konlin Brown led Asbury with 15 points apiece, combining to knock down five three-pointers as the Eagles repeatedly trimmed the margin in the second half.

Huntingdon seized control early, shooting efficiently from the perimeter and building momentum behind an eight three-pointer first half. The Hawks capitalized on hot shooting to carry a 47-31 advantage into halftime, holding Asbury to 15% shooting from beyond the arc in the opening frame.

Asbury responded with strong energy coming out of the locker room, shooting 50% from the field in the second half and finding rhythm offensively. Lual Ayiei and cam Jones added seven points each, Ayiei grabbing seven boards and Jones dishing six assists. Tyler Hall contributed six points, five steals, and three assists as the Eagles pulled within single digits multiple times down the stretch.

Despite the push, Huntingdon answered each rally with timely baskets and free throws. The Hawks finished 13-for-19 from the free throw line to secure the win late, while Asbury went 14-for-18 at the stripe and committed just eight turnovers on the night.

Asbury shot 45% from the floor and collected 28 rebounds while continuing to share the ball, recording 13 assists. The Eagles also held a 32-30 edge in second-half scoring in the paint as they attempted to chip away at the deficit.

Huntingdon was led by Tyler Mallory's 22 points, while Owen LaRocca added 23 points, connecting on five three-pointers to pace the Hawks' perimeter attack
