Potter Earns First Career Win as Eagles Sweep Berea in Season Opener

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury softball team (2-0, 0-0 CCS) opened the season their season on Saturday afternoon against Berea (0-2, 0-0 HCAC), sweeping the Bears winning game one 11-1 and game two 5-1.

Game One | ASBURY 11, BEREA 1
After trailing 1-0 through the first four innings, the Eagles' offense erupted in the bottom of the fifth, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs to end the game via run rule.

Asbury was sparked by junior equine assisted services major Abigail Moffat, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a bases-clearing triple that broke the game open. Samantha Bottom added three RBIs of her own, while Tori Giurgevich collected two hits and scored twice. The Eagles finished the game with 10 hits and capitalized on Berea defensive miscues during the decisive inning.

In the circle, freshman Josie Potter earned her first career win, tossing a complete five-inning effort. Potter allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out five, settling in after surrendering a run in the opening frame.

Berea struck first with a run in the top of the first, but Potter retired 11 of the final 13 batters she faced to keep the Mountaineers in check.

Game Two | ASBURY 5, BEREA 1
Asbury struck early in the second game, plating a run in each of the second and third innings before breaking things open with a three-run fourth. Kaylee Korros, Emily Zink, Moria Tinsley, and Samantha Bottom all drove in runs as the Eagles built a comfortable lead.

Zink finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two walks, while Tinsley added two hits and an RBI. Asbury totaled 13 hits in the contest and drew five walks to keep constant pressure on the Berea defense.

In the circle, Sidney Hansen delivered a standout performance, earning the win by tossing six shutout innings. Hansen scattered six hits, struck out two, and did not allow a walk, keeping Berea off balance throughout her outing. Abi Thompson closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
