WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury men's basketball (3-11, 1-1 CCS) battled hard at the Luce Center Tuesday night, but Covenant College (3-10, 1-2 CCS) pulled away for a 94-83 victory despite career nights from Aaron Thompson and Indred Whitaker.
The Eagles faced a tough first half against a hot Covenant squad that shot over 60 percent from the floor and led 55-37 at intermission. The Scots hit 7-of-11 from three before the break, forcing Asbury to play catch-up throughout the evening.
Asbury junior forward Aaron Thompson paced the Eagles with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and contributed seven rebounds as the squad fought to climb back into the game in the second half. Indred Whitaker also poured in a career night scoring 15 and knocking down an impressive 5-of-9 from deep.
Junior guard Konlin Brown added a solid 13 points, connecting on three three-pointers, while seeing 38 total minutes of action. Jonathan Combs chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.
Senior Scott Shepherd posted 14 points and added seven rebounds in the effort.
Covenant's balanced attack was led by Pierce Smith, who scored 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, and Logan Patterson added 17 with four made threes. The Scots shot 63.2 percent from the field overall.
