Eagles Drop Road Affair to Belhaven; Combs Pours in 20

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

JACKSON, Miss. — Asbury men's basketball (3-12, 1-2 CCS) battled hard on the road Saturday afternoon at Belhaven University (8-7, 2-0 CCS), but the Blazers' balanced scoring attack and efficient shooting powered them to a 98-70 victory over the Eagles.

The Eagles stayed within striking distance early, but Belhaven gradually pulled away thanks to a strong first half in which they built a 52-33 lead. Belhaven's offense did most of its damage inside the arc in the first half and continued its hot shooting in the second to keep Asbury at distance.

Junior finance major Jonathan Combs led the Asbury offense with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting, adding 12 rebounds in the effort. The double-double was Combs' second on the season.

Junior business administration major Jordan Lewis also turned in a strong performance, finishing with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Lewis chipped in six rebounds and played a team-high 32 minutes.

Scott Shepherd contributed eight points and four rebounds, while Aaron Thompson followed up his career-high performance Tuesday night by adding eight points off the bench. Konlin Brown scored seven points on an efficient 3-of-4 from the field.

Belhaven was led by a balanced scoring effort, including Braylon Dame's 14 points, Dyllon Redmond's 13, and C.J. Minton's 12. While Dan Robinson and D.J. Jones each added 11 points in the win. Belhaven had six players contribute double-figure scoring nights and as a team shot over 50 percent from the field.
