Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brown Leads Asbury to Third Straight in CCS Opener Over Piedmont, 68-65

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury men's basketball (3-10, 1-0 CCS) junior sport management major Konlin Brown scored a career-high 18 points on Saturday, leading AU to their third consecutive win in the Collegiate Conference South (CCS) opener against Piedmont (7-6, 0-1 CCS), 68-65.

Brown went 4-6 from three, making almost half of the Asbury 10 made three-pointers. The Eagles have now made double-digit three-pointers in their last seven contests.

AU led 32-29 at half, but trailed 61-58 to Piedmont with 3:22 to play. The teams each scored 36 points in the second half. Asbury junior Jonathan Combs made a key jumper late and clutch free throws from Scott Shepherd, and Brown secured the win.

Combs scored 16 points with seven rebounds, despite missing over 10 minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. He has now scored in double-figures with at least seven rebounds in his last four games.

AU junior Jordan Lewis tied a career-high with six steals, also grabbing eight rebounds with two assists and eight points. Shepherd also added 10 points with four rebounds in the game.

The Eagles won the turnover battle, committing 10 giveaways while Piedmont had 13 turnovers. AU had 14 points off turnovers, taking advantage of their defensive success.

Piedmont outrebounded Asbury, 32-28, but the teams tied at six offensive boards apiece. The Lions went only 2-14 from three and 17-27 from the free-throw line, compared to Asbury at 10-37 from three and 14-17 from the stripe.
