UNION GROVE, Ala.--- Asbury men's golf freshman actuarial mathematics major Gehrig Galvin placed T9 out of 37 golfers in the SU Roger Lundy Alabama Invasion in Union Grove, Ala., at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course after 36 holes of play with a 76 (+4) and a 78 (+6) for 10-over-par.

AU tied for fifth place out of six teams (326, 313), finishing with a final score of 639 in two rounds due to the final round being canceled from lightning and rain. Lyon (299, 288) took first place at 587 strokes, followed by Spalding (618), MUW (620), Millsaps (628), and Franklin (639). 

Galvin made three birdies in the first round with nine pars and then 11 pars with a single birdie in his final 18 holes. The Elizabethtown, Ky., native led Asbury in only his second collegiate golf tournament. 

The tournament winner was one-under par, John Blake Turner from Lyon, three strokes ahead of second place at two-over-par.

Asbury senior Grayson Head had three birdies on the weekend with 19 pars (79, 77). Head finished at 12-over-par in 17th place, just two strokes behind Galvin. 

Sophomore accounting major Jackson Raby shot an 81 (+9) in his first round and then responded with a 77 (+5) in his next 18 holes. Raby is the reigning BGO Male Athlete of the Week for Asbury. 


"It was a lot of fun to go down south and play on a tough course. My putting was good and kept me in it this weekend. Going down there with the grainy bermuda greens is a hard and big change from what we have up here, and I'd say I handled it well enough to put up two decent rounds. 

The older guys on the team helped me a lot mentally this weekend. They kept me up from a rough couple of rounds last tournament, and encouraged me to trust myself and do it for us."

Asbury now looks to the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Mideast Regional on September 15-16 in Prestonburg, Ky., at Stonecrest Golf Course.
