OWENSBORO, Ky.--- Asbury women's cross country finished in second place out of seven schools at the Panther Prowl on Friday evening in Owensboro, Ky. The AU men's team took fifth out of eight teams, led by senior intercultural studies major and team captain
Dan Kersey, who broke the Asbury school record for 6K (6000 meters) with a time of 20:04.
Kersey took 11th place in the race out of 50 runners. His school record 6K time broke the previous record set by his senior teammate,
Cameron Tapp, who had held the record for the past two years.
AU junior social work and adventure education & leadership double major
Bailey Gassmann took fifth place out of 50 runners in the women's 5K, running a 19:33 time to pace her team.
Asbury and Evansville were the only two women's teams to score out of the seven programs, Evansville taking the first-place win over AU, 16-57.
The Asbury women's cross country team's performance qualified the team for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship, held in Joplin, Mo., in November.
Evansville won the men's event as well with 26 points, followed by Bethel (Tenn.) with 73, Lindsey Wilson with 90, Midway with 92, and then Asbury at 104. AU finished ahead of Union (Ky.), Webster, and Brescia.

The next competition for Asbury will take place on September 13 at 10 a.m. in Berea, KY, at the Berea Invitational.
