Asbury Falls at Sewanee in Doubleheader; Haysley 19 Kills

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
SEWANEE, Tenn.--- The Asbury volleyball team (2-5, 0-0 CCS) dropped both matches on Saturday in a doubleheader at Sewanee (5-4, 0-0 SAA), falling 3-0 in the morning (25-19, 25-15, 25-22) and 3-0 in the afternoon matchup (25-22, 25-12, 25-20).

Game One | SEWANEE 3, ASBURY 0
Sewanee took the first three sets over Asbury to secure the win in game one of the doubleheader. The Tigers had 36 kills with 16 errors compared to AU with 31 kills and 23 errors. 

Senior communications major Sidney Haysley led Asbury with 12 kills on .226 hitting while adding seven digs, an ace, and a block assist. Senior biology pre-nursing major Lucy Kate Gray ran the offense with 12 assists and contributed eight digs. 

Junior biology pre-nursing major Lauren Barber anchored the defense with 10 digs, helping Asbury finish with 48 as a team.

Game Two | SEWANEE 3, ASBURY 0
Asbury battled in the second match on the road, but Sewanee won three straight sets again to sweep the day. The Tigers had 11 aces in the match, compared to Asbury with two service aces. 

Lucy Kate Gray again directed the attack for AU, dishing out 13 assists and adding four digs, while Barber turned in a strong defensive performance with a team-high 14 digs. Haysley and senior Megan Mateyoke each added seven kills for the offense, and sophomore Abigail Bruner chipped in six kills on .231 hitting. 

Asbury finished with 40 team digs and 29 assists, but was limited by 21 attack errors. Sewanee hit .210 with just 17 errors, having timely scoring runs in the first and third sets to close out the match.
