LEXINGTON, Ky.--- The Asbury men's soccer team (0-1, 0-0 CCS) suffered a 2-1 defeat in the 2025 season opener on Friday night in Lexington, Ky., at cross-town rival Transylvania University (1-0, 0-0 HCAC).
Transy scored in the 34th and 65th minutes, taking a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes to play. The goals were from Cole Varela, assisted by JT Roden, and JT Roden, assisted by Cole Varela.
AU freshman marketing major
Eli Redpath struck in the 75th minute, scoring his first career collegiate goal to bring the Eagles within one, 2-1.
The Eagles tallied two more shots after Redpath's goal, an Elise Kaze shot that was saved and
Tyson Absher booting one high.
Another gritty matchup between the Eagles and the Pioneers, both teams taking eight shots while Transy led shots on goal 6-3. AU earned eight corner kicks compared to Transy's six, and the Eagles committed seven fouls while Transy had six.
There was only one card in the match, a yellow given to AU freshman
Elijah Coates in the 78th minute.
Kaze, Redpath, and sophomore
Grant Slater were the Eagles to reach shots on goal. Both goalkeepers played the full 90 minutes, Asbury's junior business administration major
Peyton French reaching four saves while Jackson Holt had two saves.
