ATLANTA, Ga.--- Asbury men's tennis (13-4, 6-0 CCS) made history as the first AU program to compete in an NCAA DIII National Tournament on Friday morning in Atlanta, Ga., coming up short to Averett University (17-4, 8-1) in the first round, 4-0.
The No. 33 ranked Cougars from Averett came out strong for a decisive doubles point, winning 6-1 in the No. 1 match against
Ignacio Ardiles and
Franco Patino, and 6-0 in the No. 2 contest over
Ben Moore and
Andres Caceres.

Alejandro Caceres and
Gregorio Bustingorri were winning their No. 3 doubles match, 4-2, before it was stopped short.
Averett continued their momentum in the singles contests, taking three victories before the other matches could finish. Asbury's Patino slipped in the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-2, Ardiles in No. 4, 6-4, 6-1, and
Andres Caceres in No. 5, 6-1, 6-2.
In the No. 1 individuals contest,
Alejandro Caceres for Asbury was tied 6-6 in the first set. The Cougars secured with their 4-0 win a spot in the second round to face the region host, No. 6 Emory University.
Asbury concludes the 2024-25 decorated year with a Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Regular Season and Tournament Championship, as well as an NCAA Tournament appearance.
