Asbury Celebrates Final Day of 2025 Eagle Awards Winners

WILMORE, Ky.---  Asbury Athletics recently hosted the 2025 Asbury Eagle Awards, celebrating a year of serving, training, and competing for the glory of God. AU student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, and families gathered in the Shaw CLC Luce Auditorium on Tuesday night, April 29, to highlight and honor excellence achieved. 

The Asbury Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), led by President Hagen Webb, produced the event as their highlighted project for the 2024-25 year. SAAC is comprised of two leading student-athletes from each of the 16 TeamAU programs and is committed to serving Asbury student-athletes. 

The event was broadcast live and is archived on the Asbury Athletics YouTube account. 

Special thanks to Fresh Ideas Food Service and Los Altos Authentic Mexican Restaurant for providing amazing food service during the event.

Emma Grace Gray 2025

Female Gamble/Walker Outstanding Senior

Emma Grace Gray / Volleyball / Sr. / Elementary Education

Stats/Details - Emma Grace was CCS first team all-conference member and represented the AU volleyball team on the CCS All Sportsmanship Team. She finished her career with a total of 833 Kills and 684 digs. She also served as a team captain this season and led the Eagles to a CCS Regular Season Championship.

Male Gamble/Walker Outstanding Senior

Dalton Fleshood / Men's Soccer / Sr. / Business Admin.

Stats/Details -  In the 2024 season, Dalton was an NCCAA First-Team All-American and a member of the CCS All-Conference First Team. He is an RA in Trustees, a WHAM Coordinator and serves with the Chicago Eagles and Orlando Eagles Ministry. Dalton was a standout athlete whose dedication, skill, and sportsmanship set him apart of the field. He helps create a welcoming Christ-centered space where others can grow in their faith.

Molly Harlin Servant Leadership Award - A leadership award given in memory of Molly Harlin that exemplifies servant leadership.

Details - “The impact Dave has made with the men's basketball team is amazing,” said Asbury men’s basketball head coach, Will Shouse. ”His relationships with them are trusting and has allowed him to make the impact that is much needed with the team. Dave gives his time and effort to be intentionally there in a way that honors Christ.”

Stats/Details - Ben led the CCS Champion men’s tennis team in wins this year being 11-2 singles and 12-1 in doubles, and was named CCS First Team All-Conference. Asbury tennis Head Coach Jarred Miller said, “Ben is committed to being respectful to his opponents and the crowd around him watching his matches. His faith remains the priority in all things, and he wants to make sure people are aware of his faith through his actions both on and off the court.”

Stats/Details -  Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach Randy Crist said, “The love of Christ shines brightly in Ava's life. She is a Cross Country and Track & Field team captain, an outstanding runner, but that barely touches what she contributes to her team, the AU community, and the Kingdom of God.”

Riley McChord 2025
Riley McChord / Volleyball / Jr. / Communications / Business Minor

Female Frank B. and Lucille Fryman Award - This is an award for student-athletes that honors former staff members Frank and Lucille Fryman. Both gave loving service to Asbury University for several years. Mr. Fryman worked in the physical plant and Mrs. Fryman worked in the college bookstore. Their son, Bill, is a graduate of Asbury University and the father of Travis Fryman who played professionally for the Cleveland Indians. This award is for demonstrated excellence as a varsity student-athlete, for strong Christian witness and demonstrated attitude of service, and demonstrated potential for leadership.

Riley McChord / Volleyball / Jr. / Communications / Business Minor

Stats/Details - Riley McChord showed great leadership on and off the court in her junior season. As a team captain, she helped lead her team in becoming regular season CCS champions, while also earning CCS Defensive Player of the Year and NCCAA All-Region. She is a representative for the women’s volleyball team for SAAC, is involved with FCA, and served in missions with the LYNC8 Project in Puerto Rico last summer.

Stats/Details - ““Tyler is an example of the kind of student- athlete we all want in our program”, said head coach Will Shouse. ”He honors Christ in his competition, in the classroom, and off the court. He helps lead and guide younger players on campus and in the community. His confidence in his faith is key on the men’s basketball team.”

Eric Liddell Award - The Eric Liddel Award is given to an individual who actively embodies TeamAU’s mission of “Serve, Train, and Compete for the Glory of God”. This award is presented to a staff member who honors the pursuit of excellence and Christian Leadership of Eric Liddell, an Olympic gold medalist and a committed follower of Jesus.

Sammy Fluck / Head Athletic Trainer

Stats/Details - “We are blessed to have Sammy serving as our Head Athletic Trainer at Asbury,” said Asbury VP for Athletics, Mark Whitworth. “She serves our student-athletes with great competence, compassion, professionalism and commitment. We are grateful for Sammy’s leadership and willingness to help TeamAU stay healthy and thriving."

The Eagle Award - In 1992, the “Eagle Award” was introduced as a way of annually recognizing the individual, organization, company or group who has shown continuing and visible support for the athletic department. It is given with careful consideration to those who are dedicated to the development of character and excellence in young men and women through athletics.
