Men's Tennis Moves to 4-0 in CCS; Women Take First CCS Loss at Piedmont


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
DEMOREST, Ga. --- The Asbury men's tennis team (9-2, 4-0 CCS) took a 5-2 win at Piedmont to stay undefeated in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) play on Saturday afternoon, but the AU women's team (9-4, 4-1 CCS) slipped for their first CCS loss at Piedmont in Demorest, Ga., 4-3. 

MEN'S NOTES
Asbury swept all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point to start the match, powered by a tight 7-6 victory in the No. 2 spot by junior accounting major Franco Patino and junior business administration major Ignacio Ardiles.

The reigning CCS Doubles Team of the Week, sophomores Ben Moore and Andres Caceres earned a 6-4 win over Piedmont in the No. 1 match. CCS Player of the Week Alejandro Caceres and Gregorio Bustingorri took a 6-2 win over the Lions in the No. 3 matchup. 

AU won four of the six singles matches to take the CCS road victory and stay undefeated at the No. 1 spot in the conference. Alejandro Caceres led the charge with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Piedmont in No. 1 singles. 

Moore, Ardiles, and Andres Caceres also took wins in the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles matches. 

WOMEN'S NOTES
Piedmont took the doubles point to start the match, despite junior Ariadna Zegarra and freshman Katherine Nova earning a 6-2 win for Asbury in the No. 1 spot. AU slipped in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, Megan Moore and Kourtney Kawata edged 7-5 in the No. 3 contest. 

The Eagles won three of the six individual contests, falling one point shy overall of remaining undefeated in the CCS, 4-3. Freshman marketing major and CCS Rookie of the Week, Katherine Nova, took another No. 1 singles win, 7-5, 6-2, staying undefeated in No. 1 singles during her freshman season for Asbury. 

CCS Player of the Week Ariadna Zegarra took a 6-2, 6-2 No. 2 singles win over Piedmont for AU. Kourtney Kawata also took a win for the Eagles in the No. 5 matchup. 

STORY - NEXT UP
Both Asbury tennis teams will compete next on April 11 in Lookout Mountain, Ga., in another challenging CCS road contest, meeting Covenant College at 2 pm.
