Asbury Women Sweep at Covenant; AU Men Come from Behind to Stay CCS Unbeaten

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. --- Asbury women's tennis (10-4, 5-1) earned a road Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) sweep, 7-0, at Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Ga., on Friday afternoon, while the AU men's team (10-2, 5-0) rallied from behind to a 4-3 win over the Scots (11-6, 4-1) to stay No. 1 in the CCS.

MEN'S NOTES
Asbury and Covenant were both 4-0 in the CCS entering Friday's matchup, with a regular season championship on the line in Lookout Mountain, Ga.

The Eagles took the No. 2 doubles match over Covenant powered by sophomore doubles tandem, accounting major Ben Moore and business administration major Andres Caceres, 6-4. AU slipped in the other two doubles matches to the Scots, heading into singles matches trailing Covenant, 1-0.

Covenant took the top two singles matches over Asbury, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 match against Alejandro Caceres and 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 2 spot with Franco Patino. Moore, Andres Caceres, Alejo Britos, and Ignacio Ardiles each took clutch singles wins to earn the four points for AU to take the match.

Junior business administration major Ignacio Ardiles took the deciding victory over Covenant in the No. 4 match in a tie-break, before being swarmed by his team to celebrate at least a share of the 2025 CCS Regular Season Championship.

STORY - QUOTE
"I would say that our team made a great effort to make this win possible. We started out down 3-0, but the team was always strong to come back and win this match. I am very happy about this moment, and to be able to win the regular season championship."
Alejo Britos | Junior | Business Administration | Buenos Aires, Argentina

WOMEN'S NOTES
No. 2 CCS ranked AU women's tennis won all three doubles matches and then took every singles match for the sweep. The Eagles allowed no more than three points in any doubles or singles match throughout the contest.

Freshman marketing major Katherine Nova took her 13th No. 1 singles victory of the season, remaining undefeated in the No. 1 spot in her collegiate career. Malory Watkins and Mikaela West earned a strong 6-1 doubles win in the No. 3 match against Covenant.

STORY - NEXT UP
Both AU tennis teams will celebrate senior day on April 17 against Maryville College at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Ky., with the men's team a win away from an outright CCS Regular Season Championship.
