Asbury Comes Up Short to No. 11 Centre in Home Finale

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury baseball (7-25, 1-14 CCS) hosted their final home game of the season on Tuesday night in Wilmore, Ky., coming up short to the No. 11 Centre Colonels (25-7, 10-5 SCAC), 6-1, despite junior Quinn Nobles going 2-2 at the plate with a triple.

Nobles is now tied for third place in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) with three triples on the season, and has nine on his career for AU.

Centre out-hit Asbury 12-7 on the night and committed no errors while the Eagles had only one error in the field. The Colonels worked five free passes on the night offensively while Asbury had no walks or hit by pitches on offense.

After three hits in the top of the first on AU sophomore finance major Devin Walker's first start of the season, the Colonels scored one run to go ahead, 1-0. Asbury answered in the bottom of the second with three hits and a Ryan Yates RBI-single to score Andrew Billington, 1-1.

Centre scored two in the third and fourth innings on four hits, an error, and three free passes to go ahead, 5-1. Neither team scored for the next four frames until the Colonels scratched in an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

The Asbury bullpen was powered by sophomore Ryan Yates, freshman Evan McClain, sophomore Jacob Camfield, and sophomore Ben Propes, each pitching scoreless innings. McClain, a Christian Ministries major, had two strikeouts with no hits allowed.

AU had runners in scoring position in the seventh and ninth innings, but were held off the board by the Centre pitching staff and error-free defense.

STORY - QUOTE
"I was really proud of our bullpen for shutting off the scoring in the middle-innnings to give our offense a chance. Centre has a really nice baseball team, you give them a lot of credit. We're looking forward to a big opportunity this weekend."
Manny Cervantes | Asbury Head Coach
