Eagles Drop Midweek Doubleheader on Road at MSJ

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
CINCINNATI, Oh. --- Asbury softball (14-10, 5-5 CCS) traveled to Mount St. Joseph University (14-6, 0-0 HCAC) to take on the Lions in a midweek doubleheader, ultimately falling twice 5-4 and 5-0.

Freshman exercise science major Moira Tinsley and sophomore elementary education major Emma Popplewell led the Eagles offensively in game one with two hits each. Popplewell adding two RBI. Freshman psychology major Daegan Flamm added the other two RBI for AU off of one base hit. Kaylee Strunk started game one in the circle for AU throwing six innings allowing five earned.

In game two it was Abigail Moffat, Danielle Oldfield, Natalie Ison, and Moira Tinsley each with one base hit. The reigning CCS Pitcher of the Week Josie Deatherage took the mound throwing six innings allowing four earned runs.

Game One | MSJ 5, ASBURY 4
Daegan Flamm and Emma Popplewell combined for four RBI's on two first inning base hits to take a early 4-0 lead.

MSJ scored their runs in the first and fifth innings to complete their offensive attack. The Lions placed two in the first to respond to Asbury's big first inning, and scored three in the fifth to take a one run advantage.

The Eagles could not respond and went down in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to succumb the 5-4 loss to MSJ.

Kaylee Strunk pitched the entire game for AU in her eighth start and sixth complete game for AU surrendering five earned.

Game Two | MSJ 5, ASBURY 0
The Lions scored their runs in the second, third, and fifth innings to total the scoring in game two. MSJ plated one run in the second and third, and three in the fifth.

Danielle Oldifeld recorded the first hit of the game for AU in the second inning.

Asbury's biggest threat came sixth inning off a drag bunt from Abigail Moffat, followed up by Natalie Ison and Moira Tinsley singles, however MSJ escaped keeping things at 5-0.

The Eagles went down in the seventh off of three strikeouts to fall 5-0 to the Lions on the road.
