WINCHESTER, Ky.--- Asbury baseball (3-5) sophomore engineering major
Ryan Yates went 7.2 innings with six strikeouts in the final game of the week for AU in Winchester, Ky., at George Rogers Clark High School, but the Eagles fell to Franklin College (5-3), 4-1.
Franklin out-hit Asbury 7-4 to outscore AU in the pitcher's duel, with both teams committing one error defensively. Asbury left 10 runners on base in the game, being held to their lowest run-total this season.
Yates, a right-handed pitcher from Franklin, Tenn., gave up six hits and two walks for three earned runs in his second start of the season. He held Franklin College scoreless from the second inning to the seventh after the Grizzlies scored two in the first on one hit.
Asbury scored their only run of the game in the fifth, coming off one of sophomore sport management major
Aaron Beaman's second double of the day. The double scored senior
Cam Weaver, who led off the inning with a single.
Beaman was the only Asbury hitter with a multi-hit game, with Weaver and
Andrew Billington each earning a hit. The four hits for Asbury is their lowest hit-amount this year.
Franklin added an insurance run in the eighth and ninth on one hit in each inning. AU had runners at second and third with no outs in the eighth after a Beaman double down the right field line, but Franklin got the next three AU hitters out with no runs scored.
Franklin's pitching staff included C. Manuel, W. Butts, and M. Campbell combining for six strikeouts and only one earned run.
"Franklin has a really good baseball team, and they're led by a great coach. We had our opportunities today, but weren't able to convert when we needed to. Ryan pitched a great game and gave us a chance all day."

Asbury travels to Danville, Ky., on Tuesday evening for a 6 pm first pitch in their second matchup of the year with Centre College.
