Moffat Two Homeruns Not Enough; Eagles Drop Doubleheader at Spalding

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LOUSIVILLE, Ky.--- The Asbury softball team (3-3, 0-0 CCS) traveled to Spalding University (2-6, 0-0 SLIAC) for a Friday afternoon doubleheader, dropping both games in the doubleheader 8-7 and 5-3. Sophomore equine assisted services major Abigail Moffat homered in both games for AU.

Freshman Daegan Flamm, junior Natalie Ison, and sophomore Abigail Moffat combined for 10 total hits on the day, Flamm finishing 4-8 at the plate with three RBI and Ison 3-8 scoring two and driving two in for the afternoon. Moffat finished 3-5 with two homeruns and three runs scored.

Game One | SPALDING 8, ASBURY 7
The Eagles struck first in the first inning, scoring three runs off base hits from Natalie Ison, Daegan Flamm, and Emily Zink.

Spalding responded in the second inning with two runs of their own. The golden eagles would score five more unanswered runs taking a 7-3 lead into the fifth inning.

Asbury answered with three runs of their own in the fifth, Emma Popplewell, Daegan Flamm, and Emily Zink all collected RBI's. After Spalding extended their lead to 8-6 in the fifth, Abigail Moffat hit her first of two homeruns on the day to cut the deficit to 8-7.

Emily Zink and Moira Tinsley each had base hits in the top of the seventh threatening SU, but a double-play line out got the Eagles out of the jam and secured their first win of the season 8-7.

Josie Deatherage started the game on the mound for AU going two innings, surrendering three runs on one hit. Amanda Harmon and Kaylee Strunk pitched in relief for the Eagles, Strunk going 3.1 innings allowing just two runs.

Game Two | SPALDING 5, ASBURY 3
Spalding got the scoring going in the second inning off a double, grabbing an early 1-0 lead in game two.

An Abigail Moffat solo homerun and RBI's from Natalie Ison and Daegan Flamm helped Asbury respond with the next three runs, all coming in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth.

Those three runs would be the only for the Eagles on the night as Spalding scored four unanswered runs, with three in the fourth and one in the fifth. SU secured the doubleheader sweep as Asbury went down in order to end things.

Sidney Hansen went 4.1 IP allowing four ER, while Josie Deatherage finished the last 1.2 innings allowing no hits or runs, striking out one.
