PIPPA PASSES, Ky. --- Sophomore elementary education major
Emily Sizemore poured in a career-high 28 points on Thursday afternoon, as Asbury (18-9, 14-3 CCS) propelled past Alice Lloyd (10-19, 5-11 RSC) 103-84 to advance to the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Mideast Region Championship game.
Asbury was led in scoring by
Emily Sizemore's 28 points on 11-17 from the field. The London, Ky., native put up four rebounds and added three assists to her totals. The 28 points were a career-high for Sizemore passing her previous mark of 20 on November 15th against Schreiner.
Haleigh Releford and
Camryn Preston paced Sizemore in scoring with 18 and 16 respectively. Releford shot an efficient 7-13 from the field adding three steals to her stat line. Preston poured in 16 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks to help aid AU.
Morgan Flannery and
Ma'Kiya West rounded out the scoring for the Eagles scoring 10 points apiece. West shot 3-5 from beyond the arc, while Flannery filled the stat sheet with four assists and three steals. All five starters for Asbury scored double figures, the first time that has happened this season.
Asbury held a significant advantage in free throw shooting, shooting 42 free throws on the night and making 31 at a 74% rate. ALC shot just 12, making nine at a 75% rate.
Alice Lloyd held an eight point margin after the first quarter, scoring 23 points for an offensive burst. Asbury responded in the second out-scoring ALC 30-14 for a eight point lead at the break. The Eagles kept the foot on the gas, building on to their lead in the third for an 18 point lead into the final frame. AU kept things still in the fourth out-scoring ALC by one for a 19 point win.
Alice Lloyd was led in scoring by Katie Jo Moore's 22 points on 7-14 shooting and eight rebounds. The Eagles were paced in scoring by Jamie Cowan who recorded a triple-double on the night scoring 16 points, grabbing 21 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.
ALC out-rebounded AU 51-37. ALC grabbing 16 ORB and AU 14.
AU finished 31-73 (43%) from the field while Alice Lloyd shot 32-69 (46%). AU hit on 10 three-pointers tonight, ALC hitting on 11. The 103 points were the second most in a season for Asbury this season (108 on Feb. 22 vs Wesleyan).
Asbury committed 11 turnovers on 10 Alice Lloyd steals, ALC committed 29 turnovers on 16 steals for AU.
Asbury scored 21 bench points, while ALC put up 23.
"Offensively we scored a lot of points, but still had many more easy opportunities that we didn't convert on that we need to clean up. However, we are super excited and thankful about the win and chance to play for the championship tomorrow. We will need to play a better game overall, but still bring the same energy, effort and intensity."

Asbury plays No. 2 Oakland City tomorrow at 4:30 PM for the NCCAA Mideast Region title, hosted by Alice Lloyd in Pippa Passes, Ky.
