DEMOREST, Ga. --- Asbury softball (7-5, 0-2 CCS) traveled to Piedmont University (11-9, 2-0 CCS) on Friday afternoon for their first in-conference games in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), slipping in both games 4-3, 6-4.

Moira Tinsley and sophomore elementary education major
Emma Popplewell each had two base hits in game one, Tinsley two RBI, to lead the Asbury offense. Senior
Kaylee Strunk suffered her first loss on the season allowing just three ER. Senior
Josie Deatherage went 2.2 innings allowing just one hit and no ER.
Sophomore equine assisted services major
Abigail Moffatt, sophomore english major
Emily Zink, and Popplewell powered the offense in game two as each recorded multiple base hits.
Josie Deatherage went 3.1 innings allowing three ER, as
Sidney Hansen threw 2.2 innings surrendering one ER.

Asbury struck first in the first two innings off a
Moira Tinsley single, scoring
Abigail Moffat in the first inning and a
Samantha Bottom fielder's choice RBI in the second gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead after two innings.
The Lions responded with two runs in the third and two in the fourth to take and expand their lead to 4-2 heading into the fifth inning.
Moira Tinsley gained her second hit of the game in the top of the sixth on a solo shot to left field, but that would be the last run scored for AU in the game, as they could not overcome the Piedmont third and fourth innings. The Eagles suffered a loss in their first CCS game of the year, 4-3
Kaylee Strunk allowed three earned in 3.1 innings pitched, surrendering just her first loss on the season.
Josie Deatherage held things down out of the bullpen for AU, allowing one hit and no earned in 2.2 innings.
Game Two | PIEDMONT 6, ASBURY 4
The Eagles scored their four runs in the first two innings of the game to get out to an early 4-0 lead through the first two frames.
Emma Popplewell and
Emily Zink singles in the first scored
Abigail Moffat and
Natalie Ison, while Zink and
Josie Deatherage base hits scored Popplewell and Zink in the bottom of the second to extend their lead. Those would be the last two runs AU scored on the game.
Piedmont's pitching, partnered with their offense held AU scoreless and put up six runs in the final five frames to take a 6-4 win.
The Lions scored all six of their runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Josie Deatherage and
Sidney Hansen pitched for the Eagles in game two, Deatherage allowing just three ER and Hansen one.
AU drops the first two games of their CCS schedule and the first two between the schools in program history.
The Eagles fall to 7-5 on the year, while the Lions improve to 11-9 and a perfect 2-0 in conference play.
Asbury will face-off in another CCS doubleheader on Friday, March 21 at Maryville College starting at 1 PM.
