WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury baseball team (3-7, 0-1 CCS) slipped in their official Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) opening matchup on Thursday night in Wilmore, Ky., to LaGrange College (9-7, 1-0 CCS) in game one of a three game series, 16-2.
LaGrange out-hit Asbury 13-4 and used a seven-run fifth inning to power their 1-0 start in conference play. The Eagles committed three errors defensively while the Panthers had two errors.
After conceding three runs in the first two innings, AU settled in and scored junior
Andrew Billington in the fourth on a
Trevor McNaughton RBI, 3-1. Asbury was only able to score one more run in the game, coming in the sixth on a
CJ Hussey RBI-single to score
Austin Akridge.
Right-hander J. Chiesa went 6.0 innings in his start for LaGrange on the mound, giving up three hits, one earned run, and struck out 11 hitters. Sophomore left-hander
Ben Propes went 4.0 innings for Asbury with five hits, seven earned runs, and a strikouet.
Quinn Nobles,
Titus Cummings,
Cam Weaver, and Hussey each had base-hits for AU. The Eagles left nine runners on base and worked four walks in the game.
The Eagles move to 3-7 overall on the year and will look to bounce back on Friday's doubleheader with LaGrange in Wilmore, Ky.
