LaGrange Takes Series; Weaver and McNulty Lead Asbury with 10 Hits

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury baseball team (3-9, 0-3 CCS) tallied 35 hits and 29 runs in games two and three of their opening Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) series on Friday in Wilmore, Ky., but fell in both games to the LaGrange College Panthers (11-7, 3-0 CCS), 25-13, and 31-16. 

AU junior sport management major Josh McNulty and senior marketing major Cam Weaver combined for 10 hits, six runs, and three RBIs on the day. Weaver had two doubles in each game while McNulty finished the day with a team-high .393 average. 

Game One | LAGRANGE 25, ASBURY 13
Asbury used four hits in the bottom of the second to score the first three runs of the game after leaving the bases loaded with no runs in the first. LaGrange responded in the third with seven hits to score nine runs, going ahead 9-3. 

AU answered right back with five runs in the bottom half of the third on four hits, getting within one run, 9-8. The Panthers used four runs in the seventh to stretch out their lead before pulling away with nine more in the eighth. 

LaGrange out-hit Asbury 18-14 in the game, committing two errors while AU committed two defensive errors. 

Nick Morgan got the win on the mound after 4.1 innings with five hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts. Ryan Yates went 2.1 innings in the start for Asbury with seven hits, two walks, and a strikeout. 

Game Two | LAGRANGE 31, ASBURY 16
Asbury and LaGrange combined for 46 hits in game three of the series, LaGrange with 25 knocks. The Panthers were perfect defensively with no errors while AU committed four defensive errors. 

The LaGrange six runs in each of the first innings to take an early lead. AU scored five in the third and eight in the seventh, but couldn't keep up with the LaGrange offense. 

K. Morey got the win on the mound for LaGrange after going 6.0 innings with 13 hits, eight earned runs, and five strikeouts. AU freshman left-hander Evan McClain went 1.1 innings with seven hits, three walks, and a strikeout in his start.
