WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury women's basketball (17-8, 14-2 CCS) was crowned the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Regular Season Co-Champions on Saturday afternoon after defeating Wesleyan College (0-23, 0-16 CCS) 108-40. The Eagles split the title with Piedmont who also recorded a 14-2 conference record.
Asbury was led in scoring by senior multi-media journalism major
Haleigh Releford's 26 points on 10-15 shooting from the field. Releford added five rebounds, four assists and three steals, pulling her season total of steals to 79.
The Eagles were paced in scoring by
Emily Sizemore's 10 and
Ellie Heid's 11. Sizemore filled the stat-sheet grabbing five boards, four steals, and three assists to her totals. Heid's 11 was her second most in a game for her career, adding five rebounds and three steals off the bench.
Ma'Kiya West and
Liz Boyd each poured in nine points respectively. Boyd grabbed a team-high eight boards as West dished out three assists.
Morgan Flannery came away with a game-high seven steals, tying her most in a game for her career.
All 15 Eagles played in the match and recorded a stat, the third time that has happened this season.
AU out-scored Wesleyan in every quarter throughout the match. Holding a 44-24 lead into the break, AU pulled away in the third and fourth frames out-scoring the Wolves 64-16 in the second half. The 108 points for the game and 64 for the second half were the most in a game and single half for AU on the season.
Asbury held the advantage in the paint, out-scoring WC 50-22 in such.
Wesleyan was led in scoring by Kalynn Smith's 12 points off the bench. Smith went 5-7 from the field and also pulled down four rebounds. Adding to the scoring for WC was Zariah Davis' nine and Maya Whitehead's eight. Davis added eight boards and five steals, while Whitehead knocked down two 3 PT's.
The Eagles out-rebounded the Wolves 42-29. WC grabbing seven ORB and AU 18.
AU finished 39-81 (48%) from the field while the Wolves shot 17-51 (33%). AU hit on 12 three-pointers tonight, Wesleyan hitting on four.
Asbury committed 15 turnovers on nine Wesleyan steals, the Wolves committed 38 turnovers on 26 steals for the Eagles. Asbury turned the turnovers into 47 points, WC turning Eagle turnovers into six. AU has now turned over their opponents double-digit times in 23 of their 25 games on the season.
Asbury scored 49 bench points, while WC put up 25.
There was zero lead changes and zero ties throughout the game, the Eagles controlling from the tip.
Asbury improves to 14-2 and finishes tied for first in the conference, while Wesleyan drops their standing to 0-16 in the CCS and last place.
The game was the last between the Wolves and Eagles on the year, AU taking both match-ups.

Asbury awaits the winner of Belhaven and Huntingdon in the CCS Semifinals hosted by Piedmont, with tip-off scheduled for 5 PM on Friday.
