Asbury Falls Short at Sewanee; 11 Different Eagles Score

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
SEWANEE, Tenn. --- In a challenging away encounter on Saturday evening in Sewanee, Tenn., Asbury men's basketball (0-8, 0-0 CCS) fell in an NCAA non-conference matchup with the Sewanee Tigers (1-7, 0-0 SAA), 106-91.

The game kicked off with the Tigers taking an early lead, thanks to a layup from Jack Bakken followed by a seamless three-pointer from JD Gardner. Asbury faced a hot Sewanee offense, seeing the Tigers lead by 13 points off 12 threes in the first half. Jonathan Combs made significant efforts to close this gap with timely free throws, leaving the halftime score at Sewanee 54, Asbury 51.

Continuing into the second half, the Eagles made six threes to reach 12 in the game and went 8-8 from the line in the half. Despite Asbury's persistence in three-point shooting, Sewanee maintained control and pushed their lead to 16 points toward the game's final moments. Ultimately, the Tigers sealed their victory with a 106-91 win over the Eagles.

Top performers for Asbury included Luke Imfeld, who led the scoring for his team with 17 points. Tyler Hall and Cam Jones followed suit with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Additionally, Jordan Lewis orchestrated the offense with six assists. On the defensive end, Jonathan Combs led with six rebounds, contributing crucially to the team's efforts despite the loss.

AU went 20-38 in the first half from the field, but cooled in the second at 13-36 from the field. The Eagles dished 15 assists with eight giveaways, while Sewanee committed 14 turnovers but also collected an impressive 28 assists. Asbury had 11 different players score in the game, and six players with eight or more points.
