Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles Use Big First Half to Take Down Webster; Sizemore and Britton Combine for 37

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
SPRINGFIELD, Oh. --- Asbury women's basketball (3-6, 1-0 CCS) was led by junior guards Emily Sizemore and Trinity Britton, who combined for 37 points in a 75-63 win over  Webster University (5-3, 2-0 SLIAC) on Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of the Wittenberg Classic.

AU set the tone immediately in the first quarter, exploding out to a 27–6 lead. The Eagles shot 66.7 percent from the field and an efficient 4-of-5 from three-point range, while holding Webster to just two made field goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Webster responded in the second quater, outscoring Asbury 18–11 as the Eagles cooled off offensively. Despite the shift in momentum, the Eagles maintained a comfortable lead heading into halftime, leaning on defense and rebounding to preserve the advantage.

The third quarter was more evenly contested, with Asbury holding a 15–16 margin. The Eagles continued to attack inside and on the offensive glass, preventing Webster from cutting deeply into the deficit as both teams settled into a physical stretch of play. In the fourth quarter, AU matched Webster's energy down the stretch, edging Webster 22–23 in the final period.

Elementary education major Emily Sizemore led all scorers with 22 points, adding four rebounds and three assists while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Biology pre-dental major Trinity Britton followed with a career-high 15 points, knocking down three triples, and Anna Hellums posted a strong all-around performance with 13 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

Asbury controlled the glass with a 41–25 rebounding advantage, including a decisive 12–3 edge on the offensive boards.

STORY - QUOTE
"Super proud of our effort today. I challenged the ladies to come out and play with emotion and confidence early, and they did just that. We were then able to play solid the rest of the game and get a great win against a very good Webster team. If we keep that type of performance up the rest of the season and we have a chance to be very successful."
Chad Mayes | Head Women's Basketball Coach
