Asbury Slips on the Road to Transy; Sizemore Named All-Tournament with Double-Double

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Asbury women's basketball (1-6, 0-0 CCS) came up short in their final game of the Transylvania Classic over the weekend in Lexington, Ky., against the host team, Transylvania (3-2, 0-0 HCAC), 75-57. 

The Eagles were led by junior elementary education major Emily Sizemore, who was named to the Transylvania Classic All-Tournament Team. Sizemore had 18 points with 10 rebounds and five assists against Transy on triple-double watch, reaching 46 points and 18 rebounds total in the Classic. 

Transy earned a seven-point cushion after the first quarter, 24-17. Asbury responded to hold the Pioneers to 16 points in the second period, but AU was also held at 14 points, 40-31 at half.

Asbury was within nine with 5:51 to go in the game after a Sizemore three-pointer, 62-53. Down the stretch, Transy pulled away in the final five minutes for the 75-57 win. 

AU junior exercise science major Ma'Kiya West had 10 points with four rebounds and two steals. Bre Jones and Anna Hellums each had eight points as well. 

The Pioneers used second-chance points (19) and fast-break points (12) to power their offense throughout the game. Asbury was held to three second-chance points and two fast-break points in the game. Transy won the rebounding margin 49-27 to hold their lead. 

Asbury had an impressive 18 assists out of their 25 made field goals, but committed 17 turnovers. The relentless AU defense still forced their opponent to more giveaways, Transy finishing with 19 turnovers. 

Asbury went 2-6 from the free-throw line while Transylvania got 23 points from the line (23-24 FT).
