CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's soccer (7-7-4, 0-3-3 CCS) was edged 1-0 in extra time to Campbellsville University (10-7, 3-3 MSC) on Thursday night in Campbellsville, Ky., in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Region Finals.
The match was a defensive stalemate through 90 minutes, highlighted by an outstanding effort from junior business administration major goalkeeper Peyton French, who registered seven saves to keep the Eagles level. French made several key stops in the second half as Campbellsville applied sustained pressure, finishing with 17 total shots.
Asbury generated its best opportunity in the first half when freshman exercise science major Tyson Absher placed the Eagles' lone shot on target, forcing a save and giving AU early momentum. The Eagles also earned three first-half corner kicks and held their defensive structure well behind the consistency of Jon Gordon, Grant Slater, Aiden Fish, and Grant Tatum, all of whom logged over 90 minutes.
After a scoreless regulation, the Tigers capitalized in the 92nd minute of the match to end the game. Campbellsville's Ruben Cooper converted the golden goal off a setup from Eduardo De Filippis, ending the battle 1–0.
