Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jones and Stephan Combine for 31; Asbury Edged by Muskingum, 81-77

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's basketball (0-4, 0-0 CCS) guards junior Cam Jones and sophomore Isaiah Stephan combine for 31 points, but the Eagles were edged by Muskingum University (3-0, 0-0 OAC), 81-77, on Saturday afternoon in Wilmore, Ky.

The game began with Asbury asserting early dominance. Junior sport management major Konlin Brown put the first points on the board with a jumper quickly followed by Luke Imfeld who extended the lead with a decisive three-pointer.

However, Muskingum's Duane Davis proved to be a significant force, contributing greatly with steals and baskets, helping Muskingum to a six-point lead by half-time at 48-40.

The second period saw Muskingum extending their lead slightly with crucial layups from Duane Davis. Stephan, a sport management major, tried to narrow the gap for Asbury with critical three-pointers, but Muskingum countered effectively. Jones, a finance major, from Asbury emerged as a top performer, hitting multiple three-pointers to reduce the deficit.

Despite the Eagles efforts, including turnovers and strong defensive plays, Muskingum maintained control of the game and secured a four-point victory at the end, 81-77.

Muskingum outrebounded Asbury 40-31, leading to 18 second chance points. Both teams shot around 40% from the field, with AU at 29-66 (43.9%) and Muskingum at 32-66 (48.5%).

AU showcased strong performances with Jones leading the scoring for the Eagles with 18 points. Luke Imfeld contributed significantly with 6 rebounds and 14 points, while Jordan Lewis led in assists and steals.
