Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Combs Scores 14 with Eight Rebounds; Asbury Comes Up Short to Hanover

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- In a hard-fought contest at the Luce Center in Wilmore, Ky., the Asbury men's basketball team (0-5, 0-0 CCS) hosted Hanover College (2-1, 0-0 HCAC) on Tuesday evening. Despite AU playing strongly in the first half, the Eagles were defeated with a final score of 79-66 in favor of the Panthers.

The game opened with junior finance major Jonathan Combs scoring the initial points for Asbury with a quick jumper, setting a competitive tone early in the match. Asbury briefly gained the upper hand with a three-pointer from Isaiah Stephan, contributing to an initial three-point lead, 9-6.

However, the lead changed hands several times throughout the first period, with Cam McNair of Hanover making a key play that helped reduce the Eagles' lead. The first half concluded narrowly with Hanover in the lead after a three in final seconds from Sheldon Gatlin, 36-34.

In the second half, Hanover's Cam Freeman and CJ Walls made critical plays, with Freeman executing strong layups and Walls hitting a crucial three-pointer. Hanover's defense played a pivotal role, limiting Asbury's ability to score in the half.

One of the decisive moments came when Malachi McNair extended Hanover's lead with another three-pointer. The Panthers capitalized on their momentum to finish the game with a notable 13-point lead. In the end, the score was Hanover 79, Asbury 66.

Combs was a standout performer for Asbury, notching 14 points along with eight rebounds. Jordan Lewis also made a notable contribution with 12 points and seven rebounds, alongside topping the assists and steals for his team.
