WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury women' soccer team (7-4-2, 3-1 CCS) fell 2-0 in its first conference loss of the season to Maryville College (7-5, 5-0 CCS) on Wednesday night in Wilmore, Ky.
Asbury welcomed Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Commissioner Beth Vansant to midfield pregame. Commissioner Vansant presented the 2024-25 CCS Commissioner's Cup to AU VP for Athletics, Mark Whitworth.
Maryville struck in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Scots doubled their lead in the 77th minute, converting a penalty kick to secure a 2-0 win.
Sophomore goalkeeper and sport management major
Peyton Steiniger stood tall in goal for AU, recording a career-high 11 saves. Senior
Hannah Muncie led the Eagles with two shots on goal, while
Emily Carpenter added one.
The Eagles managed three shots on goal, while Maryville controlled the attack with 30 total shots, 13 on goal, and 14 corner kicks. AU didn't record any corner kicks.
The Scots held a slight advantage in fouls, with six given to the Eagles and three to Maryville.
