DEMOREST, Ga. --- The Asbury men's soccer team (6-3-2, 0-1-1 CCS) fell on the road at Piedmont University (6-5-0, 1-2-0) on Saturday afternoon in Demorest, Ga., 2-1, despite senior sport management major
Jon Gordon scoring his second goal of the season in the match.
Piedmont scored two first half goals, in the 12th and 41st minutes to take a 2-0 lead heading into the break. The Lions had 16 total shots on the day with 10 on goal, while Asbury had 13 shots with five on goal.
The Eagles answered at the start of the second half, with captain
Jon Gordon scoring in the 51st minute, assisted by his freshman teammate
Nathan Haglund. AU out-shot the Lions 9-6 in the second half, but were not able to score the second goal they needed to equalize.
Yellow cards were at a premium in the match, with eight total given out, four to each team. The Eagles had 11 fouls with 10 given to Piedmont, a closely-contested CCS dual between familiar opponents.
AU had five corner kicks in the match, the Lions attempted four corners. Gordon,
Dru Lile,
Aiden Fish, and
Crosby Short each played the full 90' minutes in the contest.
Short had eight total saves during his 90 minutes, fighting off the Piedmont 16 shots. The Piedmont keeper, Bobby Wood, played 90 minutes as well with four total saves.
