WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury men's soccer (6-2-2, 0-0-1 CCS) head coach
Ben Andrews was honored pregame on Wednesday night in Wilmore, Ky., as the all-time winningest head men's soccer coach in Asbury history. Freshman marketing major
Eli Redpath scored a 71st-minute goal to equalize the match, ending in a 2-2 tie against Berea College (0-5-3).
Andrews passed the long-time record holder and first-ever Asbury Athletics Director, Coach Cecil Zweifel, who won 132 games as the Asbury men's soccer head coach. On October 30th, 2024, in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tournament, AU defeated Piedmont, 5-1, securing Andrews' 133rd career victory for the record.
After six wins this season, Andrews' teams have won 139 matches and counting. He was joined at midfield pregame with his family and Asbury VP for Athletics,
Mark Whitworth.
AU freshman exercise science major Drew Lile opened scoring in the sixth minute, the first goal of his college career. The Eagles held the 1-0 lead until Berea's Tobore Takpor scored in the 30th and then 46th minutes to take the lead, 2-0.
After trailing for 25 minutes, Redpath's fifth goal of the season came from a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. Despite multiple close chances from Asbury in the final 15 minutes, neither team could score to get to three goals.
The Eagles had 15 shots with six on goal while Berea put five on goal out of 11 total shots. Asbury earned 11 corner kicks and committed six fouls, compared to Berea with zero corner kicks and six fouls as well.
The match is the second consecutive tie for AU after ending the match equal with Huntingdon on Saturday.
